Enables students to understand the basic properties of materials. The student learns how to select the materials appropriate for use in engineering applications. Topics investigated include material properties, thermal and mechanical treatments and corrosion control and prevention. The students use destructive and nondestructive testing, and also learn to test and design for fracture resistance.
